Extra Chapter – Cat

The moment I woke up, the world around me was dark and strange. The trees were all around me, the dark forest seemed to swallow everything, and I couldn't remember anything or why I was there. I tried to remember, but my mind was blank. The surroundings are so unfamiliar and yet there is a sense of familiarity. I looked up around me. Not far away were several towering chimneys. Surrounded by a dense forest, the dark sky enveloped my heart. I tried to climb to the top of the tree, and I circled it, and in the center of the forest I saw a tall old tree rising into the sky, I couldn't see the top of it, and I didn't know what was on it, and I called it the Divine tree. I soon found that I was close to the exit of the forest, and for a creature as good at jumping as I am, it was not too difficult to jump out of the forest. Out of the forest, I saw a lake, and soon a dark patch not far away attracted me, when I looked at it, I found a village. The village with the smoke curling up from the cooking pot looks like a city of harmony. The desire brought on by an empty stomach pushed me to the direction of the village, which seemed to be a short walking distance from the lake. As I walked, I surveyed the surroundings. I could see nothing on the other side of the lake, except for a few shadows moving in it. Along the road feel a sense of ruin, the road can see some ruins, abandoned cars, and plants attached to these ruins, greedily sucking a piece of air. Further on, I could gradually see an unextinguished bonfire, and some food left over from eating scattered on the ground. The further we went, the more and more people walked. When they saw me, their eyes seemed full of anticipation and welcome. When they reached out their hands to get close to me, I nimbly avoided them. I wandered around the village. It was nice. There was food everywhere. I was rummaging through boxes on the corner looking for food when I overheard a crying voice in one of the houses. Still wondering who had disturbed my lovely afternoon tea, I jumped up the iron plate to the second-floor balcony. What I saw was a slim girl crying on the table for some reason. Maybe because my agility posture made a sound on the iron plate, interrupting the girl's crying. She seemed to notice me. She looked up and turned. I had never seen such blue eyes, as if the sea were clear and deep. Made me do a double-take. Her blue eyes glistened with tears, she opened the glass door for me. I think that's the window.

The girl choked up and said, "Hello, little one, are you here to see my jokes, too?"

I slouched back and stretched. I don't know why I was attracted to this girl, and I stepped across the window. Went to the table and climbed down. The girl was surprised but said nothing. I saw an old kraft paper on the table, but the words on it I could not read, and the words were full of ancient breath. But I can still read the image. Looks like a treasure map, or a long-buried secret. As I looked at the image on the brown paper, my ears perked up slightly and I began to pay attention to every detail. The picture depicts a thick forest with a towering tree, just like the sacred tree I found in the forest. There was a winding stream that seemed to lead to some unknown place. There is also a village very similar to where I am now. Most striking is a marker that appears to mark an important site. She continued: "This paper was passed down to me by my father, a secret that could change our lives. But the people in the village didn't believe him. They thought he was crazy."

I was not interested in this, and I yawned. I'm perfectly happy with my life right now, and I'm not interested in that kind of thing. A sudden, uncomfortable knock at the door brought the girl back to reality. The girl hurriedly wiped away her tears and got up to open the door. When she reached the door she went back and put away the brown paper under the table. I followed her, and when she opened the door, two men were standing outside. During their conversation, I learned that the girl's name was Beatrice. The chief of the village seems to be holding a meeting supposedly to restore the abandoned dam to control the lake's water flow. When Beatrice heard the news, I could feel Beatrice light up. After a while, I saw her packing up and leaving for the meeting. I casually followed her, walking around the town, I gradually learned that almost every household has my "species." The villagers here love us. Just as I was proud of this, we also walked to the venue. The venue was small and felt more like a house made of tin huts. I followed this Beatrice into the interior. I saw a lot of people. The crowd was moving. The village chief on the stage was giving a speech, hoping several people would organize to repair the dam. After some discussion, no one seemed willing to take up the challenge of repairing the abandoned dam. Beatrice, however, did not hesitate to step forward and said she was willing to organize a small team and head out to repair the dam with a few close friends. I heard, "Beatrice, isn't that the daughter of the botanist who's obsessed with plants, isn't he crazy, saying that the dark forest has enough energy to power an entire power plant?" "Let the daughter of a crazy person do the dirty work." Hearing this, I snuck up and bit their legs. Beatrice seemed to ignore that, intentionally or not. A few days later Beatrice began gathering her friends to build the dam. The dam restoration project was full of hardship and adventure. I watched from the dam as they cleared debris, repaired damaged structures, and coordinated the transportation of supplies. The dam project is huge. I felt Beatrice's passion and unyielding drive, her blue eyes shining in the sun like a sapphire. With the arrival of summer, their work progressed rapidly. Abandoned dams have come back to life, and the lake's water level is beginning to be stabilized and controlled. I was not idle for three months either, loitering around the lake and occasionally catching a few fish to take to Beatrice, though I spent most of the time in the sun watching them work. After three months of hard work, the dam was finally repaired. Beatrice and her friends can't wait to dive below the dam to the bottom of the lake in search of the legendary treasure. But nothing came of it each time, and there was not even a sign of the box, except some scrap metal. Gradually Beatrice's friends began to give up and gradually came less often, only Beatrice was always looking. Perhaps God's blessing or I brought her luck, one day I was enjoying the warmth of the sun on the dam, and when I saw the sun shining on the water, I saw a part of the lake reflected green light. At that moment, my heart can’t be said to be excited, I don't know if it is for Beatrice happy. I raced to the side of Beatrice. At that time, she was panting by the lake, still upset about what she had just found. I stood on the map of the lake trying to get her attention, and she looked at where my PAWS were.

"What's the matter, little one? You've been stepping all over this map ever since. Did you find anything new? Is there treasure here?" That silly girl Beatrice somehow believed me and went into the lake again. A few moments later I saw Beatrice rise to the surface and excitedly open the chest to discover a glittering gem. The gem glowed with a mysterious light, exuding an ancient and magical atmosphere.

Thrilled, Beatrice carefully put the gems away and decided to share their find in the village. The discovery of the treasure at the bottom of the lake has not only brought electricity to the village but also injected new hope into their future. But I'm guessing that's not Beatrice's end game. As she was tinkering with the treasure chest, rummaging through the bottom compartment of her treasure chest, she suddenly found a piece of ancient paper that was quite well preserved. The paper seemed to be about the dark forest, the very forest where I woke up, and the study of the towering tree. The paper is filled with all kinds of mysterious marks and writing, which looks like an ancient record. Beatrice was intrigued by the discovery, believing it might contain clues to the lake's bottom treasure and her father's secrets. However, in the next story, let the plot take a sharp turn, but also let me change. I still remember how sudden and horrible it was. I honestly don't know why I followed Beatrice on her expedition to the Dark Forest, probably fearing she was alone. In the beginning, we encountered all kinds of bad weather and dangers in the forest and were also hindered by mysterious forces. The mystery of the dark forest becomes more and more disturbing. Deep in the dark forest, we finally found the towering tree, whose presence gave off an eerie atmosphere. Beatrice tries to delve deeper into the tree's secrets and gets close to the roots of the divine tree, which act like a wall blocking sunlight from above. I felt a hint of wildness, a constant reminder that the tree was too dangerous to approach. Suddenly Beatrice became entangled in the roots of the tree and her spirit seemed to be absorbed by the tree. I immediately tried to jump up to save her, but she was very decisive and pushed me away. As I approached the tree, I felt the strange power from the tree, and I fell hard to the ground, only to watch her disappear into a strange light. It was the last time I saw the poor girl, and when I woke up, I wandered out of the forest. When I came lost to the lake, I was surprised to find that my eyes had changed and turned into the clear and deep blue as the sea.
